Marius Frederick

“As your City councillor representing Ward 21 – St. Paul’s, I will be fighting for accountability and returning ‘back to basics’ services for all City of Toronto Citizens. I want to make the world a better place and will begin by making Toronto better — starting in our streets, in our neighbourhoods, in our Ward, and in our City, with your help."

Meet Marius Frederick

Marius Frederick was born in St. Georges, Grenada, Caribbean, and moved to Canada at the age of 10 with his mother, where he grew up in midtown Toronto (Ward 21 – St. Paul’s).

He is the founder of a walking tour company (Toronto Underground City Tours) mainly involved with inbound tourism promoting the underground city in downtown Toronto. He is currently a Transit driver in the GTA.

In his teens, Frederick joined the Canada’s Reserve Army 25th Service Battalion as a Private, and served with his Unit on Army Mobilization Exercises in Ontario’s northland and in the United States.

He worked at the University Theatre in Toronto, and was the Assistant Manager of the beautiful Art Deco Eglinton Theatre in the 1990s.

His post secondary school education included attending Seneca College in the Business Administration program. His first introduction to politics and politicians was in 1981, when he met Pierre Elliott Trudeau at the Canadian premiere of “Quest for Fire” at the University Theatre.

In 1987, he met with Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion, at which time he was impressed by her down-to-earth charm, as well as her handling of the Mississauga train derailment crisis, and her unwavering service to the people of her city, which continues to the present day.

In 1991, Frederick was a civilian volunteer for the Toronto Police Service during the search for a missing child. His observations of the deficiencies in search procedures involving both civilian and Police personnel which he shared, led to a reassessment and the implementation of new missing persons’ procedures.

In 1994, he campaigned for Mayor of the City of Markham against Don Cousens and Frank Scarpitti, finishing in third place in the balloting.

In 2004, he met Mayor McCallion once again after he received an award for saving the life of a teenager.

In 2006, Frederick campaigned for Town and Regional Councillor for Ward 6 in the City of Oakville, at which time he received 12.43 % of the votes cast.

In 2009, Frederick campaigned as an independent in the provincial St. Paul’s by-election to fill the seat vacated by former Attorney General and Economic Development Minister Michael Bryant. Although he did not win, he did receive more votes than any other independent candidate.

Frederick believes the simple rule that applies at campsites shall be applicable to all: “Whether it be in your relationships, block, community, Province, or Country, you must leave them in at least as good a state, or even better, than you found it.”

Frederick’s political views are largely centrist. He believes that everyone is responsible for his or her own actions.

In 1996, Frederick expressed opposition to gender discrimination in the Ontario legal system to an Ontario Government Standing Committee on the Administration of Justice. He fights for the rights, and for justice, for those who cannot do so themselves. He supports human rights without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age or mental or physical disability. Gender equality, universal health care, regional development programs, and tax breaks for working families, are all vital — but no-one gets a free ride.

He supports small and medium-size business owners, and any family who tries to make a better life for themselves and other citizens. He loves his hometown of Toronto, and is saddened by the decay of his City and area (Ward 21 -St. Paul’s).

“I am a transit driver who wishes to serve all of the people of Toronto.”

“As your City councillor representing Ward 21 – St. Paul’s, I will be fighting for accountability and returning ‘back to basics’ services for all City of Toronto Citizens. I want to make the world a better place and will begin by making Toronto better — starting in our streets, in our neighbourhoods, in our Ward, and in our City, with your help. I believe that we should have a life of purpose, passion, and meaning. I truly believe that that public service is about the people and about serving the people. Toronto, our hopes are high. My faith in you, the people of Toronto is great. Our courage is strong. And our dreams for this beautiful City will never die.”

“WE ARE TORONTO and we ALL belong here.”
