The Best Transportation: Tough Choices

A Balanced Transportation Plan for the City of Toronto

We need more subways, but the key is to get Toronto moving again. I have a plan that will serve for the interim to grow riderships at a low cost, and build for the future at the same time.

My goal of improving the transportation system for all Toronto citizens at the present and into the future includes automobiles, subways, cycling, and walking as part of an over-all revitalization process.

If you want to build a real “Transit City” you have to build a system that does not favour one mode of transportation over another.

We must remain forward-looking and invest in our future, for our children, and the next generation of citizens. The citizens of Toronto sacrificed for us in the 1950s by investing in the subway that we now use today. The citizens of the past are calling on us to look to the future again and bring Toronto back to a place where anything is possible.

A great City needs a great transit system.

I will work with Council to reach an agreement with the Province and the Federal Government to build one new subway station per year, no matter who is in power.

In the long term, subways are the most effective form of public transit as they move a greater number of people. Although they are expensive and take a long time to complete, they are a valuable investment for the heart and vitality of a large City.

But what do we do while we are waiting for it to be completed?

Energy-saving articulated trolley-buses should be added along major arteries, with increased capacity and transit signal priority, combined with separate bus lanes, will thereby relieve ridership congestion until adequate subway facilities are completed.

King and Queen Streets should be made into one-way streets, allowing the existing streetcars to be able to effectively manoeuvre throughout the downtown core easing congestion, while at the same time facilitating automobile traffic, cycling, walking and parking. Moving the people, goods and services efficiently throughout the City is the ultimate goal.

As your City Councillor for Ward 21, I will work with you to upgrade our basic services including road and transportation improvements involving the Vaughan 90 & 90a, Bathurst 7, Marlee 108, St Clair 512, Eglinton 32, and Spadina 33 routes.

I will also strongly support free passage for Seniors on the TTC.

I believe that nothing is impossible when we all work together . We can put things right together.
